I have been taking my car to John's for about 8 years. As a single mother who has to juggle too much all the time, they have helped me out of a bind many times. Back when I had an old mini-van that kept breaking down, they would take me in immediately and either provide me with a loaner car or help me get a rental car. If my car needed a lot of work, they would tell me what should be done right away, and what could wait, because they knew my budget was tight. Time has past and I have a better car (and situation) now, so I don't have to come in as often, but when I do they always greet me with a smile, good service and honesty. I really appreciate this shop.

I have an '89 Toyota truck I bought new at Kearny Mesa Toyota. It has over 400K miles on it. John's Auto has been my mechanic for most of those years, since I found the shop with the advice of my sister's husband. The staff is friendly, professional, honest, with fair pricing. I have a great relationship with the staff. Today, I was in for an oil change and they found a nail in my tire. I haven't had any issues whatsoever with the quality of service. Harold, the owner, is down to earth, no nonsense. The same guys have been working there for many years, with a couple of new faces of late. They know me by name, and always say hi. There is a clean and comfortable waiting room with a door to keep the noise out, a TV with a few stations, and reading materials like National Geographic. The only downside is the coffee could be better. Drive through Starbucks on your way.

They are not my first choice of garages in town but definitely convenient. Ive had a few oil changes, brakes replaced and had an exhaust installed here. If youre not in around the first hour of them being open you may not get your car back that day, or it may be right when they close. They typically give a reasonable estimate on time and usually keep to their estimate to within an hour. I have had a few occassions where they didnt call me until they were about to close and they said they wouldnt be able to finish until the morning, that was kind of a bummer. If youre not in a rush they typically ask what time you get off work and they'll try to work to your schedule, i find that this is the best way to get your car back around your schedule.

First time customer. They said they'd finish in about 45 minutes and they were done in 35. They did not try and sell me anything. Just made me aware I need new tires (which I already knew) and that next oil change I'd need my 60k mile check up. Very pleasant and professional. Will absolutely use again and recommend!

I brought my car in for an oil change, to ask them to find a cause for some A/C noise, and to review a list of recommended services given to me by another shop, and repair them if necessary. They quoted me a price for the exam and a nice young man with a clean car then drove me to my work. Mid-day, I got a call from the man working on my car. He said that none of the recommended services needed to be performed at this time - they were all "watch and see" items as opposed to must dos. He recommended just keeping an eye on everything, and that nothing was serious or causing any problems. The other shop had quoted about $1k for all of those items. He did recommend a fluid replacement in the transmission. He said though it was done before, the fluid was still discolored. I'm very happy with the work done, and my experience there. The staff was pleasant and helpful, and the shop was very busy, with lots of guys coming in for service who looked like they probably knew a thing or two about cars. They include a ride to and from work to just about any place in San Diego. I highly recommend them. I'll definitely be going back!

My son lived in Los Angeles, and has an old 1998 Toyota Tercel . He hadn't had it serviced in a long time, and it needed a lot of work. He was in San Diego for a weekend, and John's Auto Service was able to fit him in the same Saturday, do a lot of work on his car, and return it to him the same day. They told him which items were the biggest priority, what should be done next, and when. The woman at the reception desk was friendly and extremely professional and knowledgeable about cars, and we proceeded from there. The work was done expertly. They are very organized and all records are on the computer. They also send periodic reminder postcards indicating suggested services and when they should be performed. This is a business that is obviously a profession--and not just a job. I would (and have) recommended them to friends. You can't go wrong with John's. It was a terrific experience. They restored my faith in auto repair service. We won't take the car anywhere else!As I said above, it was a terrific experience. They restored my faith in auto repair service.

I needed front struts and the brakes cleaned and inspected. It was done timely and for a fair price. I am not disappointed with service. It was nice, they offered to drive me home and come get me when the work was done. I called around before hand and the price was reasonable and fair. I would definitely use them again.

I'd been taking my car to another place for a few years who'd previously done a good job. The past couple of repairs I've needed they'd really fallen down on the job. So on a friends' recommendation I took my car to John's. I'm glad I did - they fixed my problem after my previous mechanic "fixed" it twice without success. They seem to really be interested in my long-term interests here and I appreciate that. Honest, communicative - even phoned me several days after I'd picked up my car to make sure it was working right. I'll be back for my 120K mile checkup.
